In the 19th century, the U.S. endured the Civil War. In the 20th century, WWI and WWII. (Plus a number of "minor" conflicts, Spanish-American War, Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf War I/II). Although I hope that we can avoid it, it seems wise to prepare for conflicts of similar or greater magnitude in the 21st century. Most of this stuff would be useful preparations for other natural/man-made disasters in any case.

Thanks for the links! Have you ordered anything from Walton feed? I'm thinking of ordering their one-year food supply package. If so, what was your opinion of the food/service?

Interesting. Personally, Ive always felt its cheaper to put a package together on your own thats more to your liking. I cant recall off the top of my head, but the bunker has a few dozen #10 cans of Mountain House freeze drieds (Nitro-pak), a couple cases of MRE entrees (Major Surplus is a good source), and lotsa five/six gallon buckets (Home Depot) lined with mylar bags (Nitro-Pak) and sealed with a Gamma Seal (Sportsmans Guide). Rice, wheat, corn and beans.... If you dont mind the money, thats certainly a good package thats being offered. See if you can get yourself a copy of "Making The Best Of Basics" for some ideas. Make sure to store it well...basements are best (being sure to keep buckets/boxes off of damp ground). Definitely not in garages or attics.
