Broken toe

I think I broke the big toe on my right foot last Friday. Walking is painful and slow. It's amazing how much a seemingly minor injury can incapacitate. No wonder our ancestors died young. According to the Internets, most broken toes heal within 6 weeks, so with luck I'll be back in top shape by Burning Man.

I'm not sure if it was just sprained or if it was broken, so I was waiting a while to see if it spontaneously cured itself. If the pain persists without improvement in the next week or so, I'll have it looked at.

Ouch! I hope you feel better soon. Echoing [livejournal.com profile] jhogan, you might want to get it looked at... One of my friends in college had a bone fragment from an old broken toe causing pain for a long time. He eventually had to have the fragment surgically removed.

If you think it's broken, tape it to the next one so it heals straight. That's all the doc would do.

I had a similar issue a few years ago. I thought it was broken, so I favored it for a week. But it happens that if you walk oddly for a while you might could damage other parts of your delicate footly apparatus. So I had it x-rayed by a podiatrist, and he said the bones were all intact and that I should walk normally even if it hurts a little. So I did, and everything was back to normal eventually.

And by the way, have you considered applying for funding from the Ministry of Silly Walks?

Thanks, Paul! The toe is feeling much better now.

The Ministry of Silly Walks turned down my funding request, alas.

Happy toe recovery! I think I fractured my next to big toe while preparing for christinas bachelorette party. And it's sorta crooked now. But it walks okay!
