When it comes to the barrel monster, Carnevale says he didn’t realize how expensive the barrels he used were to the company — each one, he says, costs $120. Even so, Carnevale says the company officials he spoke with weren’t interested in pursuing charges.

“They’d like the sculpture back from the police department to use for advertising purposes,” he says.

If he wants to be less of an "economic burden", then use the cones that have been hit/run over/crushed/etc.

As Virgil pointed out... so, if I clip a few with my car (as does happen), do I get charged with destruction of gubment propertti? No.

That is AWESOME.

I would have to try to talk the victim out of pursuing the charge. :)

I want DOTs everywhere to adopt the 'Monster' & make him part of a campaign to get people to slow down & pay attention in construction or work zones. I love that guy! They should commission him to design more of them.

Funny how different places react differently. In Portland, they woulda shrugged shoulders and kept it on the road.

Apparently the only people who are actually mad at the student are the Raleigh police department. The construction company doesn't mind at all. What keeps getting left out of the story is the monster is supposed to be pointing to people they should shift lanes.

I really wish I had seen it on Memorial day... ah well...
