Winter Solstice Celebration IV - 2002
The Winter Solstice occurs this year on Saturday, December 21st at
8:41PM EST. This is the point in Earth's orbit with the shortest amount
of sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere, due to our planet's tilt relative
to the solar orbit.
Besides being a genuine, observable astronomical event- the original
"reason for the Season," its also a great excuse to get together with
other nonbelievers, enjoy a hearty meal, and review the year gone by.
To celebrate the Solstice in North Carolina, we will be meeting at:
Eldorado Mexican Restaurant
4900 NC Highway 55 #140
Durham, NC 27713

We will have our own area in the restaurant; it is the section off
to the right as you enter, or ask for the Solstice Party.
Directions:
From Raleigh and all points south - take I-40 west to Durham, exit
right at the Apex Hwy (Hwy 55 South) exit. At the bottom of the
ramp, turn right onto Hwy 55 going south. and the restaurant is
in a strip-mall shopping center approx. 1/4 miles past the
intersection with Highway 54, on the right. Look for the large
Food Lion sign- the restaurant is on the left-hand side.
From I-85/I-40 and all points west of Durham -
Take the I-40 split to the right, just before Hillsborough, NC
follow I-40 to Durham. Take the Hwy 55 South exit as above, and
turn right onto Hwy 55.
From I-85 and all points east or north of Durham -
Bear Right onto the exit ramp to Avondale Drive (Hwy 55 South).
Take a left onto Avondale Drive (Hwy 55 South). Follow Hwy 55
South for approx. 9 miles; you will pass under I-40, with the
intersection of Hwy 54 just ahead. The restaurant is about
1/4 miles past the Hwy 54 intersection, in the strip mall on
the right-hand side of the road.
