capitalism-yeah invited me to go with her and her friend Gretchen last night to Redwood City Swing. It was blast!

We took the beginner drop-in class, which they offer every Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. Both instructors were very competent, helpful and on the ball. Afterwards, Gretchen and capitalism-yeah took turns dancing with me. After they left, two women asked me to dance. There were probably 60 - 80 people there overall. They also served snacks (strawberries, chips, cookies), and had several coolers of water set up.

Downsides: the music is loud (though there are areas where it is much quieter, and you can talk), and it can get stifling hot (no a/c).

Thanks capitalism-yeah!

I used to do Redwood City Swing for several months when I lived down south. That place is really kickass as far as social partner dancing scenes I've explored. Their social dances are on the same nights as classes (HUGE plus!), they have series classes to help you learn, a separate area to practice/socialize, and lots and lots of people.

I've probably checked out five or six different dancing venues over the past few years and none of them really measured up.

Thanks! It does seem like a cool place. Where do you like to dance in SF?

Kim and I tried blues dancing at a place called Friday Night Blues last week, which was OK. We're going to try another place that does blues dancing called Roots at some point. I looked around for someplace here that had a Redwood City Swing-caliber setup but no luck. I don't actually go dancing regularly unfortunately.
