1. You may be interested in my experiences with the Blackmail diet, on which I lost 20 lbs.

2. I haven’t tried it myself yet, but Once a month cooking seems like a good way to have ready meals available, without spending a huge amount of time in the kitchen.

3. The book Self-directed Behavior is a great resource for designing behavior modification programs.

4. How To Cook Everything: Simple Recipes for Great Food, is the best general book on cooking I’ve found so far.

Thanks for posting this. I'm careful about my weight but I'm a terrible cook and that looks like an excellent recommendation.

I wish I could only cook once a month. Even once a week seems like a challenge for me. I recall tips from the late Jeff Smith in his Frugal Gourmet book concerning how to cook without spending inordinate time in the kitchen.
I may have asked once, but don't remember the answer... why is it called the Blackmail Diet?

Heh. I though I recognized that title, Self-Directed Behavior. It was one of the text books for a behaviorism class that I took in undergrad.

For me, strong extrinsic motivators work best. Having a contest or competition, for example.

Same here. That may be what pushes me over the edge to do the real restrictive carb/high protein thing... but for the moment, I am not ready to give up my carbs yet... but am getting better at reducing them... [wry grin/sigh?]

I've got two instructors counting on me to not screw up at the end of August, so, you know, no pressure on me or anything. :)
