Crissy Field
2007-11-05 01:39 amMet up with frogpyjamas at Crissy Field this morning. I left twice the amount of time I thought it would take to get there, and I was still 1/2 hour late. I ended up wandering around the Presidio trying to get to Mason St. As a result, I missed meeting Dan at the Crissy Field Center. Sorry Dan! Fortunately frogpyjamas was very gracious about my tardiness.
Once I met up with frogpyjamas I had a great time. The Crissy Field park is lovely with great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the bay:
We explored Fort Point, a retired fort located right underneath the bridge. This is a photo of some old cannon bays you see as soon as you enter the fort:
A number of tourists were driving around in these cute electric three wheeled cars:
After walking around for an hour or so, we walked to Chestnut street, and had lunch at Bechilli’s. I had the chicken salad and side of bacon. The chicken was cooked very nicely, but they added too much italian dressing for my taste.
After lunch, we walked back to the Sports Basement, an REI-like sporting goods store located in the old Presidio PX. The floor still had the grocery store tile, and the walls still had labels like “Dairy”, “Produce”, etc. They had a bunch of comfortable couches at the front of the store where you could hang out, read, or talk.
As you can see, the weather was gorgeous. frogpyjamas knew a lot about Fort Point, and the surrounding area, and kindly pointed out interesting things to me. All in all, it was a great hike. If my family comes to visit, I plan to take them to Crissy Field. Thanks, frogpyjamas!
