From Hua Shan to the Cliffs of Moher
2007-01-22 12:36 amYour workout becoming a bit boring? Why not take a stroll on China's Hua Shan?

(Via flutterby.)
Or perhaps a short bike ride on the Cliffs of Moher?

Date: 2007-01-22 05:57 am (UTC)However, I can't imagine wanting to be on a bike right at the edge of a cliffside.

Date: 2007-01-22 06:13 am (UTC)But you have to factor in the *wind*! I used to do a lot of climbing and repelling (granted on fairly low grade cliffs) but I met my fear-of-heights match on a leisurely stroll up the stairs to a fire look out in the Sequioas. The stairs were railed by waist high chain link fence and the wind was so intense that, combined with the hideous and continuous rattling of the chain link, all I could think about was being blown off.
Granted, this seem to affect only *me*, because I was eventually butt scooting down the hundreds of steps while people with canes (and daschuands!) were motoring on by me, but egad I couldn't believe how much a strong wind affected my perception of the height I was at.

Date: 2007-01-22 03:31 pm (UTC)It was really busy too; the Chinese seem to love to climb mountains. Except their mountain climbing always consists of 6 million steep steps (a la Great Wall) and it's hard work.
It's a massive tourist spot, mainly for the Chinese as I certainly didn't see any other foreigners there at the time (and for good reason!). So there's lots of smelly, weird food stalls.
I wouldn't recommend it :)
