I hope people will learn from this tragic ending for the father. There was so many mistakes made. Just a little bit of knowledge and equipment. It is just so sad.

Why is this story getting so much press? Something similar happened here just this past April and no one on LJ was talking about it.

I never heard anything about that one. I think maybe power of the internet and networking. On my space I found out about a soldier missing(just back from Iraq) when the national news never had anything about it. The story was spread through my space and on lj.

I think it's because the guy was a journalist at CNET.

Yeah. This guy had a whole bunch of friends who knew how to mobilize the media to aid the search for him. I'm guessing that the mother and son in Montana hadn't had someone hire their own helicopter and poke the media 'til locals with their own aircraft were participating in the search.

Media coverage is what you make it.
