It's a free world and people find humor amongst the pain -even when it is so hideous. The thing that bugs me most about the Holocaust is that public schools in the US pin all the blame on Hitler and maybe some of his lieutenants in passing. The rest of Europe gets a pass.
It took a whole nation of people to lend their implicit support to allow the extermination of six million or so individuals. This didn't happen over a long weekend of binge drinking or on a dare. The average German knew what was going on, they looked the other way or even helped snitch on a few neighbors. Don't pin it all on Hitler or the National Socialist party leaders. This was a sin committed by an people against another. If a German wasn't actively trying to do what was right they were part of the problem.
And it wasn't only Germans who were in on it. Other Europeans in the occupied Reich countries also succored and supported the rounding up of Jews, Gypsies and Homosexuals to be sent to the camps. Hitler was a devil but he didn't control anyone's minds. I won't give him that power. His followers willingly went along. The responsibility for a half-dozen MILLION deaths is spread over tens of millions of souls who participated in this evil deed. Many are still alive today. What you put out comes back three-fold. The laws of nature can not be flaunted with impunity like the foolish laws of men can.
Yep, a lot more people than were culpable than just Hitler.
At least what Hitler did is recognized as evil. The Communist regimes of the USSR and China killed far more people, yet they're largely given a pass. Where is the Schindler's List for the kulaks?
This bothers me as well. Stalin killed millions but that is pretty much ignored by the people who write history books for the government. The USSR was nominally our 'enemy' for over 50 years but no mention is ever made against it's leaders. Governments act to protect their own kind. If our government made any moves against the leaders of even the leaders of an 'enemy nations' government then it would weaken and threaten the power of our government's leaders. It's all a game. They have the power and they want to keep the power. It's only AFTER a leader is ousted or deposed that the truth ever comes out...
