It may look like a garden shed garbage barge on water, but the "Son of Town Hall" is the first scrap raft to sail across the North Atlantic. By design, it's not watertight. Instead, it's built instead with recycled polyurethane foam and large wooden logs which are inherently bouyant. It's also self-righting (most of the mass is in the logs at the bottom of the boat.

Neat. How do you know them? Did you work on any of their rafts?

my first long term girlfriend was one of their daughters...this was 12 years ago. she's my best friend now and living next door. :)

i never worked on any of the rafts, but i stayed on one for awhile when it was anchored in the hudson river in NY, right downtown off of pier 25. actually, that raft was called 'Town Hall', which i believe was named such in honor of the town hall in provincetown MA, where the Neutrinos played music in front of everyday for a few summers. i think that might have been where they started building the Town Hall raft and then took it up to NY...not sure, though, can't quite remember. oh well, lots of history :)

Fascinating. Did you know that the "Town Hall" raft was destroyed by the Hudson River Park Trust?

P.S. What did your ex think about growing up in such an unusual environment?
