DAD: Your mother stayed home from work yesterday. And today. She's got a cold.

[Later]

MOM: "I know where I stand with respect to you guys."

ME: "What do you mean?"

"When you called, your Dad made me get the phone. Sadie [daschhound] and Mollie [chihuahua mix] were sleeping on his lap and he didn't want to wake them up."

"Rough life."

"Yeah. So many decisions. 'Do I sleep on my back? Or on my stomach today?'"
