Carlyn Lockhead

Sen. Dianne Feinstein said yesterday she will push to suspend all new
foreign student visas for six months while officials improve
immigration tracking to keep terrorists from sneaking into the
country.

Such a moratorium would have major effects on colleges
and foreign students alike, particularly in the Bay
Area, home to thousands of international students.
More than 500,000 foreigners enter the United States
each year to study at colleges, universities and
specialty schools.

Feinstein, D-Calif., said she decided to introduce
legislation after learning that Hani Hanjour, the
hijack suspect thought to have piloted American
Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, had
entered the United States on a student visa.

Agreed. For this, and many other reasons. For example, Feinstein supports:

1. Flag Desecration Amendment.

2. Federal ban on medical marijauna.

3. Complete ban on personal firearm ownership in the U.S.

4. National identity cards to prevent illegal immigrants from working in the U.S.

5. Senate's Counter Terrorism bill (S.735) and its roving wiretap provisions. Added amendment banning distribution of information about explosive materials and devices by any means.

6. Increasing Federal spending by more than any other senator, except Kerry (D-MA).

This isn't her first attempt to ban foreign students either. Consider this:

"A proposal that has been raised on several occasions, including in
1998 by Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA), would monitor or restrict the
activities of students from specific countries, most of them Arab
states, in American colleges and universities. Sen. Feinstein proposed
barring students from selected countries from studying many aspects of
science and engineering."

yeah, she's a Democratic senator. They do more to ruin the name of Democrats than any other kind of senator.
