Dan Lyke of Flutterby has some Big Think proposals. His post prompted me to write down a few more of my own:

a. "Buy land, they aren't making any more of it." goes the old adage, but if we developed seasteading technologies it would no longer be true. The
ability to grow floating land masses will have a profound political and economic impact, and will, in the nearterm at least, benefit many more people here on earth than a moonbase. Imagine if you could secede and take your country with you.

b. Abolish the patent system, and issue prizes for specific social and scientific advancements in
the form of social policy bonds.

c. Set up a series of real gladiator games to kill off the expected surplus of 30 million unskilled, uneducated Chinese men with no hope of getting married

d. Replace coal/diesel fired electricity plants with small scale nuclear plants

e. Per Greg Benford's idea, freeze
the Library of Life
.

Send the 30mil chinamen off to mine asteroids. Shouldn't require too much training, highly dangerous, and brings mineral wealth back. And the chinamen that survive can come back rich relative to their former financial status, since highly dangerous trades usually have disproportionatly high salaries.

Seems like every time we add another story to a builing we are building more land, too.
