While I agree that anger is one of the reasons, I don't think it explains all of the behavior.
I think it does. I once lurked on a forum where the title of one thread was "If your wife won't sleep with you, it means she hates you". Of all the women posting there, not one disputed it. Opened my eyes, I can tell you. And the more additional data I collect, the more I'm convinced that all the other reasons are just excuses to mask the true passive-aggressive message.
