As many of y'all are probably aware, cryptocurrencies have taken off, and are starting to have mainstream acceptance. (JP Morgan made a large investment in Bitcoin, Paypal recently started allowing purchases of Bitcoin, and Visa just issued a credit card that pays cash back in Bitcoin.)
Thoughts on adding cryptocurrency as a payment option?
BTCPayserver allows for self-hosted crypto payment processing, and LibrePatron allows for self-hosted Patreon-like recurring payments.
Stripe, Dreamwidth's current payment processor, cut off the Trump campaign and Parler/Gab and other conservative community forums.
President Biden was also part of the administration that ran Operation Chokepoint, which pressured financial services firms to cut off legal--but disfavored--industries, such as sex work, guns, and payday lending.
In order to become more resistant to this kind of financial pressure to censor their users, it might be a good idea for Dreamwidth to cultivate more censorship-resistant forms of payment.
