None of the media that published Richardson's astonishing numbers bothered to examine the study at the heart of Richardson's claim. If they had, they would have found what we did after asking independent experts to examine the research: It's junk science.

I think it's disturbing that the WFN doesn't have well-substantiated research. I'll actually ask about this at their upcoming conference in New York.

It also does not diminish the fact that this is still a significant global issue. There are other sources that detail the issue - and I think it's one of the many major crises now, because ethically, it's unacceptable to me that slavery still exists.

What your article calls for is a real need for those of us in the human rights fields to really look at where we're getting our facts and data from, because not having accurate information limits the degree to which we can find and leverage real solutions for some of these problems.
